About Counselling

As a couple or family, counselling is a space where you (and your partner or family members) can express yourself freely. A space where you can all be heard and understood by a third party and be abel to consider where you are now and where you want to get to. Relationship Counselling/Couple Therapy is a chance to speak to someone who is not a family/friend (who often have their own views) about what is concerning you. If you are in an intimate relationship you can discuss, together or individually, what you bring to the relationship, how your background affects who you are and what you contribute to the relationship.

We can explore together how you can begin to make changes in your relationship. My role is not to "steer" you in any particular direction regarding your relationship but to help you decide how to shape your future. Counselling is, primarily, a talking therapy but I am quite eclectic in my approach so at times you may be drawing, writing letters or sharing information with each other, writing a diary or a journal, doing quizzes, physical exercises or writing letters and may be asked to feedback in the session or to your partner or family if your issue is about a relationship.

As an individual seeing me you will be able to speak about whatever is on your mind with no judgements on our conversations. These conversations could be about your relationship(s) or lack of them; an aspect of your life that you want to change or a traumatic experience in your life that is continuing to affect you now.. As someone independent to your situation I will have no pre-conceived ideas about you or how you should be or behave in your position. I will help you understand what is happening to you now and together we will look at how you wish to move forward in your life and future.

I see counselling as a real place to learn about ourselves as individuals and in relaitonships with ourselves, friends and family. As we can learn about things that ourselves that we know, and those that we don't know or tried to squash down a little, we can then see how we can make changes in our lives. I work in an very grounded, down to earth manner to help you find resolutions to your difficulties by helping you see the unseen options in your life for yourself self understanding alongside an ability to find a new direction and make informed choices for yourself.

My aim is to help you see the unseen options in your life and the ability to make informed choices for yourself and your relationships.

I will see you for an initial consultation which lasts 50 minutes (as does subsequent sessions) where we will discuss the issues that are important for you and how I can help you with these. After your initial consultation you can make a decision about ongoing counselling which is usually weekly at the same time each week but this can be flexible if you have, for example, an unusual working or lifestyle patterns with discussion.

I can see you for face to face, by telephone, online counselling and by Skype.
